A short movie Manta Resort: Underwater Room – Tour & Review:
In December of 2013, I was lucky enough to find myself on the remote island of Pemba – an island part of the Zanzibar archipelago just off the coast of Tanzania. There, I stayed with my family at the Manta Resort. More specifically, I received the opportunity to spend the 24th night in Manta’s underwater room, which is the second of its kind. The experience was incredible – one that I would recommend to any extravagant explorer.

Lying approximately 250 meters offshore, the latest underwater structure is a three-story affair, with a rooftop deck, a bathroom & a lounge area at sea level & finally the bedroom downstairs, with the fish.

Due to the room being located in a clearing, known as the Blue Hole, in the coral reef measuring some 12 metres deep, guests moreover have the opportunity to see a more relaxed side to the ocean: ”Some [reef fish] have taken up residence around the room, which affords them some protection from predators,” reads the project website. ”For instance, three bat fish & a trumpet fish called Nick who is always swimming around & seemingly looking in!”

Completely isolated & utterly compelling, the experience allows guests to delve deeper into a marine world than any diving experience, to really live within a marine environment & to experience its unique rhythm & colours. A night in the Manta Underwater Room costs $750 per night per person
